CHANGES FOR NEXT YEAR ETC.
I'm trying to figure out what we're going to do for Season 3 of Ground and Pound. There are some things we need to hash out beforehand.
First off, when should the season end? So far we've had the Ground and Pound draft immediately after the Dirty Dozen Fantasy Football Draft. That's worked out pretty good since everyone in this UFC league is present and I know it's hard to get everyone in the same room.
However, I'm thinking we're going to expand to more participants next season. I'm pretty sure I have at least 3 more people interested to go along with the 5 current players (Andy is hanging up the gloves after this season). Since these tentative new players aren't in the Dirty Dozen league, I'm proposing we have the Season 3 Draft on Saturday September 24 before UFC 135 which would be the first fight of Season 3.
There are other reasons too. There are more weight classes in the UFC now. The draft will take longer with new teams and larger rosters. Also, there is only the one headliner fight scheduled for UFC 135, and Matt Hughes isn't even on a roster this year. The other fighter, Diego Sanchez is on Bones' roster, but I have to make up a date for at least a PPV event where the next season starts.
Because of all those reasons I am proposing that UFC Fight Night on September 17 will be the finale for Season 2. I will make sure and get some concrete commitments from the potential new participants before then, but we need to act sooner rather than later to avoid more fights being scheduled after 9/17.
If some of these new guys have changed their mind, we can keep it the way it is and do it in conjunction with the Dirty Dozen fantasy football draft.
Let me know your thoughts.
